The history of ideas has been recorded in the history of the book. And while progress in technology perpetually expands our means of investigation and communication, the book — material or digital — still distills best the essence of a complex train of thought. Watching the inexorable inflation of scholarly book prices, the loss of great ideas through books going out of print, or sluggish publication rates failing to record exciting collaborative developments, I resolved to do something about it. This was the impetus for the creation of the SFI Press whose values are rigor, beauty, accessibility, and affordability.

As the Editor in Chief I work with an amazingly talented staff and a very gifted Board of Advisors to bring the ideas of Complexity to the world in an unmistakable book series. We hope that inquisitive minds will find our books inspiring, that all can afford to own the entire series, and of course, take delight in reading and displaying beautiful objects on their shelves.
